Far from the steamy August beauty of Useppa Island, a group of Useppans traveled to Maine last week to spend 5 days on Little Cranberry Island, and to tour and enjoy all that Acadia National Park and Mount Desert Island have to offer. Recently named one of the worlds best 25 islands, MDI became the summer target for 14 Useppa couples when accomodations at The Colonels House on Little Cranberrry, owned by Useppans Paul Beisswanger and Carolynn Krusi, were auctioned off to raise money for the Useppa Historical Society and the Barbara B. Sumwalt Museum www.useppahs.org
For more on the social activities and participants, go to www.peopleonuseppa.blogspot.com This summeer, Useppans from all over the country traveled to destinations as far apart as MDI and Orcas Island, to enjoy the fun and accomodations they won at the historical society auction.
Walking Jordan Pond, climbing the South Bubble followed by popovers at the Jordan Pondhouse highlighted one day of fun, another featured a boat tour of the maginificent harbors on the south side of MDI-Seal, Northeast, Southwest and Bass Harbors, as well as a cruise up Somes Sound. Our best sailors, Taylor, Beisswanger and Greer spent that day cruising a Ludders 16.
Not that anyone would ever want to leave Useppa Island, but a summer trip to MDI offers incomparabel beauty, moderate climate as well as activities interests for everyone.
