Located in Florida’s Pine Island Sound, this island hideaway is accessible only by boat, or plane and perfect for a day trip. Just a short boat ride from Useppa Island, Cabbage Key prides itself as being a step back in time to “Old Florida.” Comprised of 100 acres, proprietor/owners, Rob and Phyllis Wells, are your island hosts since 1976.
Serving fisherman and boaters for decades, the tiny island paradise features a dock, open-air restaurant, magnificent views, gift shop, Inn with six guest rooms, along with rental cottages amidst tropical vegetation. With a speed limit of 5 mph, there are no roads and no cars. Here, on-island transportation includes walking, cycling and golf carts.
Cabbage Key is 38 feet above sea level and built on an old Calusa Indian shell mound. Cabbage Palms are abundant throughout the island — thus the name.

DINING ON CABBAGE KEY
Located in the Old House, enjoy expansive menus for breakfast, lunch and dinner 365 days a year. Original hardwood floors and cypress walls invite you back in time. There are two dining rooms, with one on the porch. Enjoy the Fresh Catch of the Day, Your Catch of the Day, stone crab, marinated shrimp grilled to perfection or the go-to “Cabbage Key Cheeseburger in Paradise.” And, then top it all off with their heralded Key Lime Pie. If you’re headed for a fishing adventure, or a day at Cayo Costa, grab a lunch to go.
TOURNAMENTS & HOLIDAYS
Fishing Tournaments are an annual occurrence, while special events and holidays here are spectacular. Whether a holiday, special event, or the annual Cabbage Key Open Fishing tournament, it’s important to note that beverages are an important component of the island’s allure. The bar at the Cabbage Key Inn opens at 7 a.m, serving traditional favorites and island specialty drinks.
HOW TO GET HERE
From Useppa Island, your just minutes to Cabbage Key by boat. For a leisurely cruise, catch a Captiva Cruise that runs daily. A narrated cruise to Cabbage Key takes just over an hour, with plenty of snacks and adult beverages.
